BCADG is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, focusing on the future success of our community.  This organization was conceived on the foundation of the Juneteenth celebration, with the hope that embracing and understanding the knowledge of our past adversities will be the motivating source or tool, that will empower our youth as they navigate their way to a great future.

On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger sailed into the port of Galveston, Texas.  With him was a troop of union soldiers and the news that slavery had been abolished in the United States of America for the past 2 ½ years.  He stood on the balcony of the Galveston hotel and issued General Order number 3 which read in part:

The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, All Slaves are Free.

The speech in its entirety was called the Emancipation Proclamation.

On the 150th Anniversary of that historic speech, Broken Chains Awareness Development Group was born.   As we remember the past, the Juneteenth

Celebration of freedom is our foundation for making an investment into the future.
